About GetAGitDev

What is GetAGitDev?

GetAGitDev is a developer search engine. We continuously crawl public GitHub profiles, analyze their repositories, programming languages, contributions, and bios, then make them searchable by technology keyword.

Whether you're a recruiter looking for a React specialist, a startup founder searching for a Rust engineer, or an open source maintainer seeking contributors — GetAGitDev helps you find developers based on what they've actually built, not what they claim on a resume.

How Does It Work?

  1. Discovery: We start from seed profiles and expand through GitHub's follower/following networks, continuously discovering new developers.
  2. Analysis: For each developer, we analyze programming languages used (measured by actual bytes of code written), repository topics, bio keywords, contribution patterns, and employment availability signals.
  3. Skill Extraction: We extract and normalize skills from 200+ known technologies — from mainstream languages like Python and JavaScript to specialized tools like Pulumi, dbt, and Zig.
  4. Indexing: Everything is indexed and searchable. No developer action is required — if your GitHub profile is public, you may already be in our database.

What Data Do We Collect?

Only publicly available information from GitHub profiles. This includes:

We never access private repositories, private profile data, or require any authentication from developers.

What Makes This Different?

Traditional hiring platforms rely on self-reported skills. Developers check boxes, list technologies, and write descriptions — all of which can be exaggerated or outdated.

GetAGitDev is different because every data point comes from verifiable source code. If a developer lists "Python" as a skill, we can show you exactly how many bytes of Python they've written, across which repositories, and how recently. If they say they're "open to work," we detect that from their bio, hireable flag, and contact availability.

Is It Free?

Yes. Searching is free and always will be. Our goal is to make developer discovery fast, transparent, and accessible to everyone.

How Fresh Is the Data?

Profiles are re-crawled on a rolling basis. Most profiles are updated within 7 days. High-activity developers may be refreshed more frequently.
